Athira Islamic School

Sekolah Islam Athira (Athira Islamic School) is an internation Islamic School in the City of Makassar, South Sulawesi Indonesia. The institution was build in 1984. This school was named after the mother of the Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, which is Mrs. Hadjah Athirah. This name Athira means fragrant; with this fragrant the students is expected to be a spirit for the academic community, achievement, and in attitude. As the year goes on, the number of the students increased that results to the management of the school to expand. Another campus of Athira Islamic School was built in Bukit Baruga, Makassar in 1999. The school during this time offers kindergarten to junior high school units.

The basic concept of Athira Islamic School is characterized by Islam, national spirit, and global outlook. With their vision: to be a superior school characterized by Islam, national spirit and global insight together with their mission: develop a learning system that is able to equip students with rational skills, and personal skills, Athira Islamic School ensure that they provide quality education to their students. Furthermore, the school seeks to form a balance of emotional, intellectual and spiritual intelligence.

Athira Islamic School used the National Curriculum as the basis of their specified curriculum. The school provides the students learning experiences that are not only on the pure academic experiences, but also on extracurricular areas both in regional and international levels. The institution also adopted and developed technology and contemporary learning methods so that the students will be free in active learning approaches. The school provided LCD projector on each classroom to ensure also the technological progress of students in learning. The school has also the CCTV cameras on each room with their monitoring system at the teacher's room in order to ensure that teachers and students has good relationship and activities inside the classroom.

Athira established a motto: ANGGUN, UNGGOL, CERDAS, which shows what Athira products should be. A human resource with heart, strong, and intelligent. Thus, this motto upholds also the mission and vision of their school to provide quality education to students.

Furthermore, the school has its own strategy also in assessing students' performance and academic standing. The teacher is expected to give students quizzes and activities which could measure their learnings. Athira has also the scheduled quarter examinations and summative exams to evaluate students' academic performance quarterly. The school also emphasizes the usage of informal and formal assessment inside the classroom.

Lately the school offers the Senior High School with two tracks which are the Mathematics and Science Class (MIPA) and Social Class (IPA). Their Senior High School started at the 10th grade up to the 12th grade. To ensure also quality education, the senior high school department was equipped with all the technological facilities which help both the students and teachers in teaching - learning process inside the classroom. The school also gives summative and quarter examinations to ensure the sustainability of the learning of the students.
